Rheumatology Review Series

What it is

Dr. Luebker runs an annual rheumatology review series at White River Health, where she serves as a rheumatologist, medical director, infusion director, and associate faculty. The series is built around board review teaching rather than around new research, and it covers the rheumatology content that internal medicine residents are examined on. Across 2024 and 2025 she delivered eight rheumatology board review presentations for graduate medical education.

Board review teaching is a particular discipline and it isn't the same as a conference talk. The material has to match what the examination tests, it has to be pitched at people who will be assessed on it within months, and it has to cover conditions the resident may have seen once or never. Teaching it well requires knowing both the subject and the examination.

Who it's for

The series is delivered to internal medicine residents and to the wider clinical staff at White River Health. Rheumatology occupies a small share of an internal medicine curriculum relative to how often these conditions present in general practice, so review teaching of this kind fills a real need. Residents who go on to primary care will see inflammatory arthritis, and they'll be the first clinician to see it in many of those patients.

Supervising resident research

Alongside the teaching, Dr. Luebker served as senior author and attending physician for two resident poster presentations at the Arkansas Rheumatology Association in 2024. Supervising a resident through a project of their own is a different task from presenting your own work, and it forms part of the associate faculty role. Both of those posters were presented by the residents themselves rather than by her.
